Text-to-image generators have gained tremendous popularity over the past years. This specific application of artificial intelligence allows users to create digital images based on textual input. It seems that any desired image is just a few clicks away, with little to no technological knowledge about the inner workings needed.  

But what happens underneath the hood? How does a text-to-image AI exactly work? This step-by-step explainer will lift (some) of the curtains of image generation and shed light inside the black box of AI.

Foam welcomes you to the book launch of Middle East Archive's newest publication: 

a collaborative photography book featuring the work of various photographers from across the Middle East and North Africa and beyond.

The book centres the everyday presence of women in the region, presenting them as individuals rather than symbols. The publication brings together diverse photographic approaches and perspectives. Rather than proposing a single narrative, it foregrounds the plurality and contradictions in women’s lives, allowing each body of work to stand on its own while contributing to a broader collective portrait.

 highlights the role of women in shaping family life, social structures, and cultural memory, while also acknowledging how these roles shift across time and place. It does not attempt to represent all women, but instead creates space for visibility, complexity, and representation.

Foam and the Middle East Archive will continue their collaboration later this year, presenting work in the public space at Mercatorplein in Amsterdam West, as well as at the creative space MAQAM.

Get ready for a kids workshop full of fun, creativity, and colour during the May holidays!

In this workshop, children explore the playful and colourful world of photographer Martin Parr. With a camera in hand, they go on a little adventure in and around the museum, looking for funny, colourful, and unusual moments on the streets of Amsterdam. They learn to look at the world through the lens of Martin Parr.

After taking photos, all the pictures are brought together into one big group collage. With the help of AI, the collage becomes a unique colouring page that children can bring to life with colour and their own imagination.

Dive into the colourful and humorous world of Martin Parr during the May holidays. This workshop is designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing children.

The workshop begins with a guided tour of the exhibition 

 by Martin Parr. Accompanied by a sign language museum educator, children discover Parr’s photography. After the tour, they gather in the exhibition’s reading corner, where they share their own observations and engage in conversation about the work in sign language.
