For the second installment of the Adorned public program, Foam is directing the spotlight on the Platforms that produce fashion visuals.

If fashion photography is proving to be an incredible vehicle for channeling a variety of social and political issues, then what kind of role do platforms have as facilitators?
The production of images is deeply tied to their circulation, the environment in which they are created and the audience. Traditional fashion outlets followed the wave made possible by the digital revolution, while creatives were the ones making the change happen. In order to make a lasting impact on the industry and on the way we communicate and consume fashion, they needed to join forces and shaped platforms safeguarding theirs and the makers&rsquo; visual identities.
Who are the actors producing and publishing contemporary fashion&rsquo;s visual products? In what way are those involved in the production making bundling together in order to re-direct the constantly changing landscape? Foam will discuss these questions together with Andile Buka (The Sartists), and Chiara Bardelli Nonino (Vogue Italia).

During the event, the focus will lie on a few examples of the different platforms actively changing and challenging the panorama of fashion. Together with guests coming from the artistic domain, publishing industry and agencies, we'll discuss various platforms, the ways in which they were built and the unique types of content they are championing &ndash; often surprisingly bringing together fashion and social change.

Fashion and Platforms

In light of Adorned &ndash; The Fashionable Show, Foam is creating a one-time event focused on the relation between the languages and themes of fashion and the moving image.

The visual language of fashion and its representation is constantly evolving and changing. It becomes enriched by various influences and contaminations through different forms of media. Artists are interpreting this fertile moment with increasing interest. During Adorned: Fashion and Moving Image creators, editors and curators will come together to discuss and present various fashion related video productions to dive into the visual language of fashion. Starting with an introduction, lecture by Shelly Jones (NOWNESS) and conversation by various artists such as Catherine Servel, Suzie &amp; Leo and Mohamad Abdouni, the evening will contain screenings of multiple fashion related video projects of which the artists will be present to talk and answer questions about their work.

Moving image artworks go hand in hand with the photographic image. Together they not only explore topics which change and shape the landscape of fashion, but also the different techniques. Dance, performance, theatre, fiction and music are all elements of an ongoing conversation, in which fashion is contributing.

What is fashionable and what does it convey about ourselves? How do we adorn ourselves? How do we use fashion to show who we are, who we think we are, or who we want to be?
The exhibition&nbsp;Adorned &ndash; The Fashionable Show&nbsp;presents intriguing and challenging fashion related photography projects created by a new generation of visual artists. They all work with fashion, but most of them are not straightforward fashion photographers. For them, fashion and style are primarily tools to construct or question identities, to empower people and to play with cultures, gender, race and ages. While some participating artists have already been discovered by well-established fashion brands, others continue to work from within their own communities. They are outspoken, challenging, critical or provocative, but always highly relevant in a time defined by fundamental power shifts in which access, diversity and identity are keywords.

MAGAZINE INTERVENTION The exhibition is inspired by Foam Magazine issue #53 Adorned &ndash; The Fashionable Issue. For the magazine Foam invited three of the most forward-thinking fashion magazines, Buffalo Zine, Beauty Papers (installation by Casper Sejersen and Gary Gill) and King Kong, to contribute with a curated intervention. Their vision on fashion photography will be showcased in the exhibition.

Adorned - The Fashionable Show

The exhibition Don't Stop Now: Fashion Photography Next provides a platform for a new generation of image-makers who work with fashion. An exciting glimpse into the new order of fashion photography. 

Don&rsquo;t Stop Now: Fashion Photography Next was organised by Foam in collaboration with guest curator Magdalene Keaney. The exhibition&nbsp;offers a stage to photographers who are bending the rules&nbsp;of fashion photography.
Don&rsquo;t Stop Now: Fashion Photography Next offers an exciting glimpse into the wealth of contemporary practices in fashion photography, resulting in a dynamic, colourful and multi-faceted presentation. In the words of&nbsp;Magdalene Keaney: "If someone tells you not to stop, it means you must be doing something good to begin with! The title of the exhibition,&nbsp;Don&rsquo;t Stop Now,&nbsp;was thus intended as a&nbsp;clarion call."
Those who document fashion are oftentimes as influential and significant as the fashion designers themselves. Fashion photography has long been an important cultural phenomenon. But the revolution of print, digital and social media has opened many&nbsp;doors for the current crop of emerging fashion photographers.
On one hand, they&nbsp;are following in the footsteps of their&nbsp;famed colleagues such as&nbsp;Mario Testino, Helmut Newton, Juergen Teller or Inez &amp; Vinoodh. But on the other, they are carving out a place for themselves,&nbsp;whether they are playing with new forms of digital manipulation or experimenting with analogue techniques.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION The Don&rsquo;t Stop Now: Fashion Photography Next exhibition starts out from the fact that fashion photographers are first and foremost photographers. The exhibition provides a platform for a new generation of image-makers who work with fashion.
Variety and hybrid are two major characterisations of the work of these young photographers. The exhibition shows the diversity in approaches, as well as the abundance of photographic methods. Developments in fashion photography proceed for the most part equally as those in other fields of photography. Contrary to the possibilities presented by digital technology, many emerging photographers turn to analogue techniques and process their own images in the darkroom.
Some of the photographers are particularly interested in the artificial character of the fashion image and are pushing the limits of the medium via manual interventions and manipulation; others, on the contrary, investigate the possibilities offered by the digital aesthetic. To do so, various forms are juxtaposed and combined, such as studio and location shots, and genres such as still life, landscape, portrait and abstraction. Collage, sculpture, installations and performance also naturally assume a place in their method of working. The most important rule is that there are in fact no rules.
The emergence of zines, independent underground publishers and self-publishing has offered a welcome alternative to the monopoly position long held by the major publishing companies. This has created a kind of underground circuit that allows more space for experimentation, existing parallel to the world of the established global fashion industry. The opportunities presented by self-publishing and social media are for many of the photographers discussed here a major instrument of promoting their own work without mediation by galleries, agencies or established institutions.
Concurrent with this exhibition, a book by Magdalene Keaney with the same title has been&nbsp;published by Thames &amp; Hudson. Don&rsquo;t Stop Now: Fashion Photography Next is intended as a positive statement regarding the work of the young photographers included in the exhibition and the book, both now and in the future.

Dit keer is de workshop gebaseerd op de tentoonstelling&nbsp;<a href="/nl/museum/programma/helmut-newton" target="_blank">Helmut Newton - A Retrospective</a>. Hij is een legendarische en invloedrijke fotograaf uit de vorige eeuw. Binnen zijn fotografie is het poseren van het model heel belangrijk.

Tijdens de workshop gaan de kinderen een gestileerd portret maken, waarbij de focus ligt op de invloed van je houding op een portretfoto, op de uitstraling van een pose en wat voor effect de kleding heeft op de sfeer van de foto. Deze eerste foto&rsquo;s worden geprint. De uitgeknipte modellen worden opnieuw gefotografeerd maar dit keer met de stad als achtergrond. Newton gebruikte vaak de openbare ruimte als zijn studio en bepaalde zo de sfeer van de foto. De kinderen plaatsen hun uitgeknipte model in een omgeving die ze vinden passen bij de houding en kleding. Het uiteindelijke resultaat krijgen ze geprint mee naar huis in een goodiebag.

Foam heeft compactcamera&rsquo;s van Olympus beschikbaar voor deze workshop. Wanneer er voorkeur wordt gegeven aan het gebruik van een eigen camera is dit geen probleem. Denk in dat geval aan een volle batterij, een lege SD-kaart en een inlaadkabel. Het gebruik van eigen materiaal is op eigen risico.
Voor de ouders/verzorgers bieden we een gratis rondleiding aan van 1 uur, zodra de kinderen zijn opgehaald door de museumdocent. Deze duurt van&nbsp;13.00 - 14.00 uur.
Ge&iuml;nteresseerd? Meld je op tijd aan want de plaatsen zijn beperkt. De tickets zijn gebonden aan een specifieke datum en tijd. Na aankoop van de kaarten is het niet mogelijk om van datum te wisselen of om kosteloos te annuleren.
De tentoonstelling komt tot stand in nauwe samenwerking met de Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlijn.
