Walk-in workshop
Hailun Ma

Are you curious about photography that goes beyond simply capturing what you see? Step into this walk-in workshop inspired by the artist Hailun Ma.

Moving between the staged and the spontaneous, Ma’s images reveal how people present themselves, and how culture is worn, shared, and reimagined. Ma’s work allows the images to speak before they are explained.

About the workshop

In this workshop, you will create a portrait in which identity takes center stage, rather than the face itself. How can you reveal something about a person without creating a traditional portrait? Experiment with body language, clothing, poses, framing, and objects to create an image that tells a story about someone.

No registration is required; you can drop in and join the workshop at any time.
