Kids workshop: Stories of Martin Parr in sign language

Get ready for a kids workshop full of fun, creativity, and colour during the May holidays!

In this workshop, children explore the playful and colourful world of photographer Martin Parr. With a camera in hand, they go on a little adventure in and around the museum, looking for funny, colourful, and unusual moments on the streets of Amsterdam. They learn to look at the world through the lens of Martin Parr.

After taking photos, all the pictures are brought together into one big group collage. With the help of AI, the collage becomes a unique colouring page that children can bring to life with colour and their own imagination.

Kids workshop: Quirky Portraits

Dive into the colourful and humorous world of Martin Parr during the May holidays. This workshop is designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing children.

The workshop begins with a guided tour of the exhibition 

 by Martin Parr. Accompanied by a sign language museum educator, children discover Parr’s photography. After the tour, they gather in the exhibition’s reading corner, where they share their own observations and engage in conversation about the work in sign language.

This Christmas break, children can let their imaginations run wild during a special workshop at Foam! 

 have developed a singular visual language. Their work invites viewers to reconsider what they see and how they see it. 

Inspired by the exhibition and the working methods of artist duo Blommers & Schumm, children will discover how everyday objects can be used to create surprising works of art.

By looking closely, shifting and combining, they learn how simple things can come together to form a completely new image, a face, a flower, or perhaps something completely unexpected. Using illusion and imagination, the children create their own artwork that shows how differently you can look at the world around you.

This workshop is for children between 6 and 12 years old. Parents and caretakers can join the workshop for free.

Dive into the daily life of Amsterdam-West during a photography workshop at MAQAM, inspired by the exhibition

 is an ode to Amsterdam-West, and above all to the people who bring these neighbourhoods to life. During the workshop you will not only learn the techniques of street photography, but also gain insight into how to capture the essence of a place and its residents, from squares and back gardens to encounters that often go unnoticed yet form the beating heart of the city. 

We are offering the same workshop on two dates: Sunday 30 November and Sunday 1 February, both from 13.00 to 17.00 hrs at MAQAM. Please book only one date, as the sessions are identical.

 exhibition, Koos Breukel presents a series of photography workshops where participants can work alongside the artist. Set in a specially designed photo studio within the exhibition, participants can choose to shoot in the studio or, weather permitting, in the garden. Each workshop is inspired by the style of a photographer who has played a significant role in Breukel’s artistic journey.

During the workshops, he is joined by guest photographer and specialist in noble print techniques, Daphne Wageman, providing participants with expert guidance and insight.
