, a major solo exhibition of the internationally renowned artist Nadav Kander. Over more than three decades, Kander has created some of the most celebrated images in contemporary photography, including portraits of Barack Obama, Rosamund Pike and David Lynch for publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker and TIME. The Edge of Things traces the threads that connect his work: a deep concern with the fragility of human existence, the passage of time, and the quiet intensity of everyday life.

In September 2026, Hailun Ma presents her first major solo exhibition outside China, inviting visitors into a world where fashion becomes a lens for social observation. Recognized as one of the most influential voices among China’s new generation of image-makers, Ma turns her camera toward the gestures, styles, and relations that shape everyday life in Xinjiang.

Foam 3h presents the first museum exhibition of photographer Keerthana Kunnath. For her debut series Not What You Saw, Kunnath has been photographing female bodybuilders in Kerala, South India. 

The images show women flexing their muscles against the backdrop of Kerala's lush landscapes, combining physical strength with a softness rarely associated with the sport. Through her work she opens up a conversation about gender, sexuality and mental health, topics that are rarely discussed openly in her homeland of India.

Join us on Friday 18 September for a special conversation with artist Nadav Kander and curator and writer David Campany, on the occasion of the exhibition 

What makes a strong photographic practice? How do you develop a visual language that remains distinctive and recognisable over time? Together, Kander and Campany will explore these questions through a selection of key works from across Kander’s career, discussing the artistic decisions behind his images, the formation of photographic series, and the evolution of a consistent artistic vision.

Focusing on topics such as image selection, sequencing and narrative, the conversation offers a unique insight into Kander’s working process and the development of his photographic practice.

 on Saturday, you’re welcome to join one of our tours: in Dutch at 11:00 hrs and in English at 12:00 hrs. No extra ticket is needed, participation is included with your museum admission.

Our experienced museum teachers challenge you to look closely and form your own opinion on the photography in the museum.

During the Free Guided Tour, you will visit the exhibitions in a group of at most 15 people. The museum teacher strikes a balance between posing questions and providing information, helping you discover the story of the photographer, the subject and the context of the exhibitions together.

Foam and Middle East Archive present a two-part exhibition project in Amsterdam-West, comprising a solo exhibition at Mercatorplein and a group presentation at MAQAM (

. Both presentations are based on the latest MEA publication, 

, and are curated in collaboration with Romaisa Baddar, founder of Middle East Archive. Through Galerie Mercatorplein and its satellite location MAQAM, Foam has a long-standing presence in Amsterdam-West and maintains close ties with the area’s diverse communities. The two exhibitions are part of a multi-year trajectory that will continue in 2027 with an exhibition at Foam.

Foam presents the exhibition of Myriam Boulos (1992, Lebanon), the 19th winner of the Foam Paul Huf Award. Across her work, Boulos consistently transforms a deeply personal exploration into politically resonant visual narratives, while also reshaping our understanding of documentary photography itself. Her photography gives visibilty to those living outside dominant norms, capturing moments of connection and tenderness within a context that often seeks to silence them.

Foam is undertaking a sustainability renovation to prepare its historic building on the Keizersgracht for the future. From 2 March to 8 October 2026, the museum will carry out a phased renovation to improve the building’s sustainability standards. Throughout the works, the museum will stay open and will showcase a limited number of exhibitions.

Visitors may notice signs of work during their visit, such as noise or temporary changes to visitor routes. We aim to keep any inconvenience to a minimum. Foam remains open almost the entire time, with a temporary closure from 27 August to 17 September 2026. We reopen on Thursday evening, 17 September, with the festive opening of three new exhibitions.
