Foam 3h presents the first museum exhibition of photographer Keerthana Kunnath. For her debut series Not What You Saw, Kunnath has been photographing female bodybuilders in Kerala, South India.

The images show women flexing their muscles against the backdrop of Kerala's lush landscapes, combining physical strength with a softness rarely associated with the sport. Through her work she opens up a conversation about gender, sexuality and mental health, topics that are rarely discussed openly in her homeland of India.

Visit Foam for a special photography workshop for children, inspired by artist Nadav Kander’s exhibition

During a guided tour with a museum educator, children discover how light, shadow, colour, space and composition can influence the atmosphere of an image. They then head to the studio to get hands-on and explore photography with all their senses. As part of the workshop, they create a photograph that makes a smell, sound, taste or feeling visible without showing it literally. Using different materials, scents, sounds and colours, they first build a small scene or landscape. They then photograph their creation with a camera. The result is a photograph that not only invites you to look, but also evokes something you can feel, smell or hear. At the end of the workshop, the children share their photographs with one another and receive a certificate.

Hailun Ma Walk-in workshop

Nadav Kander photographs landscapes that feel both familiar and strangely alien. From the banks of China’s Yangtze River to the shores of the River Thames and places marked by history, his work explores how time, history and human influence shape the world around us. Through atmospheric images, Kander evokes emotion and a sense of timelessness, drawing attention to the quiet details, shadows and silences that often go unnoticed.
