Two students making portraits of one another

LinkedIn & Professional Branding

A career starts with a good representation of yourself. In this workshop, students learn to describe their characteristics and explore how to “capture” this in a portrait.

About the workshop

What effect does a more relaxed pose have in a photo? How does sidelight, diffused light or a certain background affect the atmosphere in your photo? What do you want your first impression to be?

In the LinkedIn & Personal Branding workshop, students look for the best representation of themselves to show to their network. Which pose, expression, colour and posture fits? The programme starts with a short tour of the exhibitions. Afterwards, students find out what the most important aspects are in their professional role and what core values fit this role. With guidance from the museum teacher, students will portray each other using studio light, backgrounds and effects. Each student will go home with a LinkedIn-worthy portrait of themselves.

Learning goals

  • Analysing style characteristics of portrait photography through a tour in the museum;

  • Questioning each other on professional characteristics and skills and expressing the findings into a mood board;

  • Creating a portrait that matches the skills and characteristics of the professional profile

LinkedIn & Personal Branding ties in with the social dimension of Citizenship, Civics and Media literacy, in addition to the creative subjects.

This workshop was created in collaboration with MBO advisor and educator Floor van Hulsen.
