AI: Artificial Identity

Discover how AI is used for photography. How do artists deal with artificial intelligence, what are the pros and cons and how do we make sure it is an extension of us and not the other way around? What determines AI in how we interact with social media and our online personality?

About the workshop

During the workshop AI: Artificial Identity, students discover their point of view towards AI and its use in their online personalities. They take inspiration from photographers from Foam and discuss which influencers, platforms, media or artists they know who use AI. They then start noting each other's external features as specific as possible and generate an AI portrait using the features as a basis. This image is used as a starting point for a new, photographed self-portrait. Which portrait suits them better? Students are given their AI portrait and self-portrait to take home digitally.

Learning goals

  • Discussing about how to define the impact of artificial intelligence on social media;

  • Creating an AI-generated portrait, based on a personal and as detailed as possible prompt;

  • Creating a personal portrait based on the student's previously entered prompt and personal characteristics.

The AI: Artificial Identity workshop ties in with the socio-cultural dimension of Citizenship, Civics and Media literacy, alongside the creative subjects.

This workshop was created in collaboration with MBO advisor and educator Floor van Hulsen.
