Text-to-image generators have gained tremendous popularity over the past years. This specific application of artificial intelligence allows users to create digital images based on textual input. It seems that any desired image is just a few clicks away, with little to no technological knowledge about the inner workings needed.  

But what happens underneath the hood? How does a text-to-image AI exactly work? This step-by-step explainer will lift (some) of the curtains of image generation and shed light inside the black box of AI.

On Transience – The Ebb & The Flow

Met trots presenteert Foam de tentoonstelling 

door Augusta Curiel. Augusta Curiel (1873-1937) was een van de eerste vrouwelijke fotografen van Suriname die een succesvolle fotostudio in Paramaribo runde, samen met haar zus Anna (1875-1958). De tentoonstelling biedt een overzicht van het werk van de gezusters Curiel, met onder andere portretfoto's en beelden die het dagelijkse leven in Suriname vastleggen. Door zowel bekende als onbekende beelden te tonen, belicht de tentoonstelling de veelzijdige praktijk en unieke positie van de gezusters in de Surinaamse samenleving tijdens de Nederlandse koloniale periode.

From the Archive:  Establishing Eden by Persijn Broersen & Margit Lukács

van non-fictiekunstenaar en fotograaf Khashayar Javanmardi. Javanmardi groeide op in deze regio en heeft het afgelopen decennium de aftakeling van de zuidelijke oever van de Kaspische Zee, grenzend aan Iran, vastgelegd.

Met zijn doorlopende project brengt hij deze achteruitgang in beeld en benadrukt hij hoe belangrijk het is om politieke en structurele veranderingen te verbinden aan het dagelijks leven, als reactie op zowel het wanbeheer van de regio als de wereldwijde klimaatcrisis.
