Text-to-image generators have gained tremendous popularity over the past years. This specific application of artificial intelligence allows users to create digital images based on textual input. It seems that any desired image is just a few clicks away, with little to no technological knowledge about the inner workings needed.  

But what happens underneath the hood? How does a text-to-image AI exactly work? This step-by-step explainer will lift (some) of the curtains of image generation and shed light inside the black box of AI.

 alumna Hajar Benjida. In de tentoonstelling staat Magic City centraal, een invloedrijke stripclub in Atlanta die een cultureel epicentrum vormt waar hiphop-cultuur en entertainment samensmelten. 

 is een eerbetoon aan de vrouwen achter Atlanta’s invloedrijke hiphop-industrie, een stad die Benjida beschouwt als bepalend voor het wereldwijde geluid van het genre. Zij fungeren als de onofficiële culturele poortwachters van hun gemeenschap.

, de eerste solotentoonstelling van kunstenaar Jasmijn Vermeeren. Vanuit een persoonlijk perspectief belicht Vermeeren het leven met een onzichtbare beperking, fysiek en/of mentaal; een onderwerp dat in dialogen over diversiteit en inclusie vaak onderbelicht blijft. 

 biedt een intieme ervaring die bezoekers uitnodigt om zich te verplaatsen in het dagelijkse bestaan van mensen voor wie dit leven de norm is.

Door middel van fotografie, video en sculpturaal werk reflecteert Vermeeren op haar eigen ervaringen met chronische pijn en de maatschappelijke aannames rond gezondheid en identiteit. Ze identificeert zich als 

: een term die verschillende vormen van beperking omvat, zoals fysieke, mentale, sensorische en leerstoornissen. Vermeeren daagt daarmee normatieve opvattingen over functionaliteit en normaliteit uit. 

 verwelkomt bezoekers in de wereld van de kunstenaar, waar emoties welkom zijn en ruimte wordt geboden voor reflectie, om zo te herontdekken wat het betekent om

In de kerstvakantie kunnen kinderen hun fantasie de vrije loop laten tijdens een speciale workshop bij Foam! Blommers & Schumm hebben een eigen beeldtaal ontwikkeld. Hun werk nodigt je uit om opnieuw te kijken naar wat je ziet en hoe je het ziet. Geïnspireerd door de tentoonstelling en de werkwijze van het kunstenaarsduo, ontdekken kinderen hoe alledaagse voorwerpen gebruikt kunnen worden om verrassende kunstwerken te maken.

Door goed te kijken, te verschuiven en te combineren, leren ze hoe eenvoudige dingen samen een compleet nieuw beeld kunnen vormen: een gezicht, een bloem, of misschien wel iets totaal onverwachts. Met illusie en verbeelding maken de kinderen hun eigen kunstwerk, dat laat zien hoe verschillend je naar de wereld om je heen kunt kijken.

Deze workshop is bedoeld voor kinderen van 6 tot 12 jaar. Ouders en verzorgers kunnen gratis deelnemen.

Discover the World of Blommers & Schumm: Become a Surrealist Artist

Verrijk je bezoek aan Foam met een gratis rondleiding. Iedere oneven week op zaterdag ben je welkom bij een van onze rondleidingen: in het Nederlands om 11.00 uur en in het Engels om 12.00 uur. Je hebt geen extra ticket nodig – deelname is inbegrepen bij je museumbezoek.

Onze ervaren museumdocenten dagen je uit om goed te kijken en je eigen visie te vormen op de getoonde fotografie.

Tijdens de gratis rondleiding bezoek je de tentoonstellingen in een groep van maximaal 15 personen. De museumdocent wisselt vragen af met achtergrondinformatie, zodat je samen het verhaal van de fotograaf, het onderwerp en de context van de tentoonstelling ontdekt.

Amsterdam 750: Mounir Raji Captures the People Who Shape the City

Foam nodigt je uit op vrijdag 16 januari bij de presentatie van 

Gedurende tweeënhalf jaar fotografeerde Blok zwangere personen in verschillende Europese landen, op diverse momenten van hun zwangerschap. De beelden in de publicatie worden gecombineerd met verhalen, anekdotes en observaties die ze schreef tijdens haar werk in een Nederlandse abortuskliniek, aangevuld met persoonlijke reflecties over de complexiteit van moederschap en intimiteit.

De avond wordt gehost door curator Jilke Golbach, die samen met Verena Blok werkt aan haar solotentoonstelling bij Foam in maart 2026. Het gesprek met Verena Blok wordt geleid door schrijver, kunstenaar en curator Mirthe Berentsen.

De deuren openen om 18.00 uur, het gesprek begint rond 18.30 uur.
