Pillow Talk
For the occasion of the exhibition Romain Mader - The Following is a True Story, Foam organises a talk with Romain Mader and Nadja Kilchhofer on Thursday 11 January.

The exhibition The Following is a True Story provides a chronological overview of Romain Mader's artistic projects, many of which unfold around the artist's quest to find love. Often using humour and irony to address serious topics such as loneliness, love, exploitation and the female body, Mader's work contains many layers of interpretation. By blurring the lines between reality and fiction, the artist confronts us with our own assumptions and prejudices.

Included in the exhibition is Mader's most recent project, Honeymoon (2017), in which a newlywed couple (Mader and Kilchhofer) recounts its romantic trip through images. Awkwardly performing for the camera against the backdrop of a financially devasted Greece, the work raises questions about the portayal of personal experiences in the public (digital) sphere. Can knowingly capturing moments for the purpose of sharing them result in a distorted version of reality?

Nadja Kilchhofer, an artist and recurring character in Mader's work, and Romain Mader will welcome participants to their honeymoon suite for a one-time, intimate talk about the creation of this latest series, the delicate tension between reality and fiction in their work, and their collaboration as performers and image-makers. The talk is moderated by Mirjam Kooiman (Foam).
