Photographer speaking: Koos Breukel
Take a guided tour through the exhibition of Mike Disfarmer at Foam with photographer Koos Breukel.

This activity is only available in Dutch.

American studio photographer Mike Disfarmer (1884-1959) made portraits of the residents of Heber Springs, a small town in rural Arkansas in the United States, between 1915 and 1959.
Disfarmer’s way of working was straightforward. He positioned his models directly in front of the camera, against a simple background, and had them look right into the lens. The effect is a focus on the individual without any distraction from the surroundings or props. Only after his death did his work become known internationally and regarded as a typical example of classic American portrait photography.

The guided tour Photographer speaking takes place on selected Thursday evenings and starts at 18.30 and 19.30 in Foam. Reservation is required for participation. The tours will be given in Dutch and there are 15 spots per guided tour available. Costs € 7,50 (admission excluded).
