Next Level: Jonathas de Andrade

Foam presents Next Level with Jonathas de Andrade. The artist combines fact and fiction and uses staged scenarios, which are created in collaboration, to tell layered stories.

The stories that Jonathas de Andrade (Maceió, Brazil, 1982) tells are rooted in the territory and history of Brazil, particularly in the Nordeste (northeast region). His work echoes the voices of those less heard and is told through photography, video and installation. The underlying themes are often about power relations, class and race.

About Next Level

Since 2015, Foam has presented the exhibition series Next Level, with the support of Ammodo. The series is aimed at introducing a wider public to innovative art by relatively young artists who are making radical new use of the medium of photography. Foam has invited Jonathas de Andrade to create new work for the exhibition.

Next Level: Jonathas de Andrade is made possible by Ammodo and the Gieskes-Strijbis Fonds.

Foam thanks Stichting Foam Friends and Foam Fund for their generous support of this exhibition.

Foam is supported by the VriendenLoterij, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, City of Amsterdam, Foam Members and the VandenEnde Foundation.

In 2021 Foam receives additional support from Kickstart Cultuurfonds and the Mondriaan Fund.
