MBO in Foam
Foam has been actively engaging with secondary vocational education (in Dutch: MBO) since 2015. In this presentation, Foam presents how projects, different workshop series, programmes and events can provide students with a stage and appeal to their talents. Together with alumni, partners and teachers, we reflect on a decade of creative collaboration, inspired by the voices of the students who help shape the museum’s future.
About the collaboration
Since 2015, Foam has been actively engaging with secondary vocational education (MBO). While students have been visiting the museum to participate in workshops and programmes for much longer, the focused effort to involve mbo students more directly through creative projects has developed more structurally over the past ten years.
This dedicated focus on this group of young people requires ongoing investment and close collaboration with a wide network of partners. In particular colleges, other cultural institutions, teachers and the students themselves play a crucial part in bringing about successful projects. Key to every project are ownership, self-development and creativity. Students not only meet the museum’s artistic team, but also get introduced to Foam’s marketing and communications department, education team, sales, and Foam Magazine. They learn the methodology of guiding groups through the museum, working towards their first photo series, building a portfolio, presenting work at partner institutions, organising events and activating their own target group for everything they produce.
