In Hindu and Buddhist mythology, Apsaras are immortal nymphs that often appear as attractive young women whose purpose it is to seduce. This portrait by artist Harit Srikhao, part of the series 

, presents a modern, surrealist depiction of an Apsara. The visual idiom that the artist uses is derived from fetish fantasies, Buddhist symbols, and Thai culture. In 

, Srikhao reflects on the glorification of the monarchy in his country and comments on the role of depictions of the king in the Thai people’s everyday lives. Srikhao’s works have had their consequences: in the past, various of his images were removed from an exhibition in Bangkok because they criticised the actions of the military regime in power at the time.

In the average Thai household, a photo of the king takes pride of place, occupying the highest, most prominent place on the wall. Having grown up with this glorification of royalty, artist Harit Srikhao reflects on the divine status attributed to the king of Thailand. The idolatrous worship of his image is a deeply-rooted part of Thai society, and offers refuge in a fantasy world. In the series 

, the name of a sacred mountain that also forms the centre of the universe in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology, Srikhao shows the viewer this surrealist landscape full of fantastic, divine figures. His photos do not depict any nirvana, however – if anything, they put one in mind of violent rituals, cannibalism and masochism. In this way, Srikhao’s 

 emphasises the paradox of what he encounters in Thailand: the everyday worship of a portrait of the ruling power versus the absence of room to question its meaning.

Though almost half a century has passed since the Franco Dictatorship (1939-1975) ended in Spain, the wounds this period left behind are very much open. Young imagemakers, born after the death of Francisco Franco, address this complicated collective past in their work. In this article, we explore the topic through the work of three contemporary artists. One of them is Bebe Blanco Agterberg, whose work was exhibited in Foam 3H.

On 22 March, the exhibition Foam Talent will open at Red Hook Labs in Brooklyn, New York.

Foam returns to New York to present <a href="/museum/programme/foam-talent-new-york">Foam Talent</a>; the group <a href="/museum/programme/foam-talent-new-york">exhibition</a> bringing together 20 international artists whose work explores a myriad of subjects and techniques.
Selected through the annual Foam Talent Call &ndash; the largest to date, with 1.790 submissions from 75 different countries &ndash; the 20 image-makers presented in this exhibition represent a cross section of the current state of photography.
Amsterdam-based DJ Cris Dijkman will be playing music throughout the evening and drinks are provided by Dirty Lemon and Old Blue Beer.

For example by openly denouncing totalitarian regimes in their respective countries, or by commenting on the way in which online imagery feeds a collective fear of terrorism. This year&rsquo;s selection also includes a striking number of long term projects that acquire greater depth of meaning over time.&nbsp;Equally striking is the embrace of a wide range of media by today&rsquo;s artists, who rarely confine themselves to the camera alone.

Foam Talent 2018 | New York 

For the first time in Germany, the Frankfurter Kunstverein presents the internationally renowned, showcase exhibition Foam Talent in collaboration with Foam. 

The&nbsp;exhibition is considered one of the most innovative formats for discovering emerging trends in photography. Foam Talent presents 20 young artistic positions, who in extensive installations paint the picture of a generation concerned with questions about social identity, the repercussions of territorial conflicts, subcultural phenomena or the potentials of photographic production. A number of artists employ anthropological methods in their projects and proceed toward intense long-term research. Some take found footage from historical archives, private collections or the Internet and use it as raw material for their artistic investigations. Other positions are characterised by activist approaches as well as strategies of investigative journalism.

For the third time, Beaconsfield Gallery Vauxhall and Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam proudly present Foam Talent, a touring exhibition that brings together a group of 20 innovative photography talents under the age of 35.

This year, 1790 artists working with photography responded to Foam&rsquo;s annual Talent Call, which has the reputation of representing the latest developments in photography. The final selection of 20 artists has been made on the basis of their innovative and often experimental approaches to the medium.
Coinciding with Photo London, the&nbsp;Foam Talent&nbsp;exhibition acts as an annual platform for introducing a new generation of emerging artists to the international art world and provides an insight to current photographic concerns.
Through a myriad of subjects and techniques, this new generation of inspiring artists reflects on the nature, history, and development of the photographic medium.&nbsp;Socio-political concerns are amongst a number of perceptible trends and tendencies: several artists openly denounce totalitarian regimes in their respective countries&nbsp;or comment on the way in which online imagery feeds a collective fear of terrorism. Questions of identity and representation continue to be important themes for a new generation of photographers.
Responses are made on a personal and sometimes intimate level, as well as on a cultural, national, or even global scale. This year&rsquo;s selection includes a striking number of long-term projects that acquire greater depth of meaning over time &ndash; sometimes involving years of study or extensive travels. On Friday 22 September the Foam Talent exhibition officially kicks off with an evening dedicated to the 20 exceptionally talented photographers of this year's selection.

Especially for the opening and hailing from around the globe, many of the Talents will be present for the occasion. An evening celebrating an impressive selection of work by artists with diverse and captivating practices, representative of recent developments within the photographic medium.&nbsp;You are welcome for the opening from 5.30 pm onwards.
The new Talent Issue of Foam Magazine, which serves as an exhibition catalogue, will also be presented and available to purchase (comes with a free tote bag, exclusively for the opening). The exhibition is on show at Foam until 12 November.&nbsp;
