Summer Masterclass
This summer masterclass, by Philippe Vogelenzang and Carlijn Jacobs, will focus on both their commercial and autonomous work and the work of the participants.

This workshop is in Dutch.

The work of Philippe Vogelenzang and Carlijn Jacobs is currently on show in Foam 3h. Both photographers work at the cutting edge of fashion, portrait and glamour photography and have been inspired by Helmut Newton.

After the Summer Masterclass there will be an evening of talks with photographers, agents, models and editors around the topic of contemporary professional photography practice.

Please note: this masterclass is meant for anyone who is working with fashion, styling and photography in a professional or academical setting. This means participants must send in a portfolio that shows affinity with the theme of this masterclass, before your participation can be confirmed.

PHILIPPE VOGELENZANG
Philippe Vogelenzang in Foam 3h: PS, 2016  © Marleen van Veen

Philippe Vogelenzang (1982, NL) is always searching for something iconic in mankind. How does one portray another person at their very best? Without fuss, Philippe is capable of creating powerful and pure images of every person who stands before his lens, whether famous or a stranger, often in a timeless style of black & white photography. Vogelenzang is uniquely able to demonstrate an approachable, soft and intimate image of a model that would normally be cast for his masculinity.

In this masterclass, Philippe will teach you new ways to look at people and be able to emphasize their characteristics. He will also show you how to communicate with your model and allowing them to better understand what you would like them to do.

CARLIJN JACOBSCarlijn Jacobs in Foam 3h: PS, 2016  © Marleen van Veen

In contrast to the majority of the fashion world, Carlijn Jacobs (1991, NL) does not aim for perfection, but for unconventionality through her use of colour, strange poses, peculiar styling and surprising compositions. How does one create an atmosphere, a different universe around the model? "I (sub)consciously apply non-conventionally attractive elements (imperfecions, hyperbole, sleekness and shimmer) in my work. Ignoring what is considered ugly or beautiful, I simply create something that I can idolize".

Carlijn will teach you about playing with perspective, using props and shooting on location to help you become better at creating new worlds within one image.

The Foam 3h Programme is realised thanks to the Gieskes-Strijbis Fund, the Van Bijlevelt Foundation and Kleurgamma.
