Speak out / Carlijn Jacobs
Take a guided tour through the exhibition Helmut Newton – A Retrospective at Foam with fashion photographer Carlijn Jacobs, who is currently exhibiting herself in Foam 3h.

All Speak Out tours:
12 August: Carlijn Jacobs, fashion photographer
19 August: Lennart Booij, curator Applied Arts & Design at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
26 August: Olga Kortz, editor-in-chief i-D Netherlands
2 September: Mirjam Kooiman, curator at Foam

This activity is only available in Dutch.

The core of Helmut Newton's work lies in his commercial work, the work he did for magazines and commercial clients. At the same time, even with commissioned projects, he was able to produce work according to his own vision. He navigated between free and commissioned work with apparent ease, blurring the line between genres such as portrait photography, fashion photography and nude photography.

CARLIJN JACOBS | 12 AUGUST
In contrast to the majority of the fashion world, Carlijn Jacobs (1991, NL) does not aim for perfection, but for unconventionality. She often selects her models for their eccentric appearances and creates an atmosphere around this that is entirely her own, just like Newton. Jacobs currently presents her work in Foam as one of the emerging artists creating work reminiscent of Helmut Newton influences. During the guided tour you will discover how Newton fascinates Carlijn Jacobs and how his influences affect the creation of her photography.
