Public opening: Daniëlle van Ark & Gold and Silver
On Thursday 19 April, you are invited to attend the public opening of two new exhibitions:

GOLD AND SILVER
Portrait of Daniel J. Butler with gold and mining tools, 1850 © Canadian Photography Institute of the National Gallery of Canada/The Origins of Photography/Archive of Modern Conflict/CPI (detail)

The exhibition Gold and Silver offers a modern-day look at the nineteenth century gold rush in the United States. Contemporary projections, nineteenth century daguerreotypes and albumen photographs allow you to travel along the rivers of California and across the snow-covered mountaintops of the Yukon to fathom the ambitions, dreams and illusions of an entire generation of gold seekers.

The exhibition is on view until 10 June.

DANIËLLE VAN ARK - ARTIST'S PROOF
Lot 458 + Lot 459, 2016, from the series Contemporary Art © Daniëlle van Ark / courtesy De Nederlandsche Bank (detail)

How does a work of art acquire value and meaning? What are the processes at play? And what is the artist’s role in all of this? These are the recurrent themes in the oeuvre of Daniëlle van Ark. Her solo exhibition at Foam raises questions about value and authenticity, particularly in the field of photography: the reproducible medium par excellence. In addition to Van Ark’s most recent works, the exhibition includes a site-specific installation that was developed specifically for the Foam gallery space. In it, the artist reflects on the museum context in which her work is displayed – or kept from view.

The exhibition is on view until 10 June.
