Disfarmer and the myth of the Amateur
Many of the stories about the American photographer Disfarmer are difficult to substantiate. Along with the exceptional quality of the photographs, myths about him as a person have contributed to his posthumous fame.

Foam curator Kim Knoppers will explore this in her talk Disfarmer -The Myth. James Brett, founder of The Museum of Everything, will talk about Amateur Photographers are People Too. Whether historical distinctions between professional, non-professional, vernacular and accidental photography add meaning to today’s visually literate culture. The Museum of Everything is a registered British charity and the first and only wandering institution for untrained, unintentional, undiscovered and unclassifiable artists. It has helmed major exhibitions across Europe and Russia, welcomed over 750,000 visitors and is today considered the leading advocate for alternative art-makers from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

This talk is a related to the exhibition Disfarmer - The Vintage Prints and The Symposium of Everything: a national series of talks, discussions and screenings to accompany The Museum of Everything exhibition at Kunsthal Rotterdam
