Zooming In: Intimacy in Times of Social Distancing

In the online series Zooming In, we bring together the Foam Talents of 2021. Through a series of online Zoom talks, we aim to learn more about the different projects and how they connect to each other.

This Summer, we dive deeper into Foam Talent 2021 by pairing up the selected artists in an online Zoom conversation. Each of the three events will be divided into two parts. The first part introduces the artists and their projects, focussing on their approach and motivation. After this, we take a closer look at the topics connecting the artists' work, aiming to contextualize their series within the photography field as well as current discourses in society. Each conversation will feature special guests to share their unique perspectives and reflections.

Date: 23 June 2021, 18:30 - 20.00 hrs CET

The pandemic has drastically affected the way we interact with others. The longing for the physical touch even got a word: skin hunger. How do these new social norms impact our relationship with both ourselves and others? Artists Ana Vallejo and Leonard Suryajaya have used the past months of quarantine to explore this question through visual research. The resulting series touches upon topics such as intimacy, sexuality, and wellbeing. Both of them offer a unique perspective shaped by their personal background and experience. The artists will be joined by guest Gem Fletcher (creative director, writer, podcaster).
