ADE: Universal Law of the Matrix

Together with ADE, Foam presents a special performance and installation by artist Maya Rochat (CH, 1985). Under the title Universal Law of the Matrix, the artist is developing a site-specific installation that celebrates the fluidity of nature and its ever-changing states.

Challenging the traditional notion of photography, Rochat experiments with different chemical processes, textures and layering of images. In a performance during the festival days of ADE, the installation will come alive through sound and light to create an immersive experience.

On 15 October from 20.00 until 23.00 hrs, the installation will come to life. Projecting onto the installation, the artist will show her latest video works and present a live painting performance together with soundscapes by Amsterdam based artist and musician/DJ Dimitri Madimin.

About the exhibition

Maya Rochat’s installations refuse to conform to the white space and are meant to be experienced, not just seen. In her work, she challenges the traditional notion of photography by creating ephemeral, transient installations that come alive through the use of space and light. The power of nature is one of her main inspirations; she celebrates its fluidity by playing with the chemical processes of image-making. Universal Law of the Matrix is a visual exploration of the ever-changing states of nature, inviting the viewer to embrace the unknown.

This exhibition is made possible by Gemeente Amsterdam, Stadsdeel West.

Foam is supported by the VriendenLoterij, Foam Members, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, the VandenEnde Foundation and the City of Amsterdam.

In 2021 Foam receives additional support from the Mondriaan Fund and Kickstart Cultuurfonds.
