Sustainability renovations at Foam

Foam is undertaking a sustainability renovation to prepare its historic building on the Keizersgracht for the future. From 2 March to 8 October 2026, the museum will carry out a phased renovation to improve the building’s sustainability standards. Throughout the works, the museum will stay open and will showcase a limited number of exhibitions.

Visitors may notice signs of work during their visit, such as noise or temporary changes to visitor routes. We aim to keep any inconvenience to a minimum. Foam remains open almost the entire time, with a temporary closure from 27 August to 16 September 2026. We reopen on 17 September with a festive opening of three new exhibitions.

About the renovations

The renovation includes upgraded building insulation and the installation of a new energy efficient climate system. These interventions will significantly reduce the museum’s energy consumption and lower annual CO₂ emissions by approximately 22,000 kilos. Additionally, these upgrades will support the long term preservation of the artworks and enable us to present exhibitions to the highest standards.

This project is carried out together with the City of Amsterdam, Archivolt Architects, B2 Restauratie and BOS Groep Techniek.
