Book presentation Sem Langendijk DOCKLANDS

On Thursday 28 April, Foam Editions will host the book presentation of DOCKLANDS by Sem Langendijk. During this festive evening, curator Mirjam Kooiman will present this special edition including a limited editioned folder with three self-published publications and a small print.

About DOCKLANDS

The DOCKLANDS project is a photographic research by Sem Langendijk, showcasing the different systems that influence the transition of high profile harbour cities. Langendijk compares conditions in the former docklands of Amsterdam, New York and London. Focusing on the high demand for living near the water, the project tries to get a grip on shifting demographics, waterfront development and gentrification. The project resulted in a trilogy of publications that deal with the identity of these areas, and the people related to them.

The publications Agency, LOT and Perimeter and the 20 x 25 cm print (ed. 100) are bound together in a silver pantone ink printed dust jacket, which also functions as a fold-out poster.

Funding for HAVEN

Since the completion of these self-published booklets, Langendijk has created a new narrative for the work which takes form in his upcoming photobook HAVEN. In this book, Langendijk traces back his memories of growing up in a changing city. A sense of identity, which is bound to the communities present in the harbour, is the foundation for the work. The forthcoming book will be published by Eriskay Connection and the production costs will be covered through the sales of the self-published DOCKLANDS.

The combined publications cover the whole scope of the long term project and are limited to 100 copies.

Foam is supported by de VriendenLoterij, Foam Members, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, the VandenEnde Foundation and the City of Amsterdam.
