Join us on Friday 18 September for a special conversation with artist Nadav Kander and curator and writer David Campany, on the occasion of the exhibition The edge of things.
What makes a strong photographic practice? How do you develop a visual language that remains distinctive and recognisable over time? Together, Kander and Campany will explore these questions through a selection of key works from across Kander’s career, discussing the artistic decisions behind his images, the formation of photographic series, and the evolution of a consistent artistic vision.
Focusing on topics such as image selection, sequencing and narrative, the conversation offers a unique insight into Kander’s working process and the development of his photographic practice.

About the exhibition
From his award-winning photographs of the banks of China's Yangtze River to the shores of the River Thames and places such as Chernobyl, heavy with the weight of history, Kander’s photographs stand out for their ability to evoke both emotion and a sense of timelessness. Rather than simply documenting the world, his work evokes a shared human experience through a poetic and atmospheric visual language. His images often dwell at the margins – on the ‘edge of things’ – where certainty dissolves and ambiguity takes hold. Shadow, emptiness, and silence play as vital a role as his subjects, creating photographs that resonate on a profound level.
About the artist
Nadav Kander is a London-based artist and director, internationally acclaimed for his portraiture and large-format landscape photographs. He began taking photographs at the age of 13. Kander has received numerous awards and honours. His work is held in major public collections, including the National Portrait Gallery in London; Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago; The Frank-Suss Collection, London, New York and Hong Kong.
About the curator
David Campany is a curator, writer and educator, and Creative Director of the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York. Widely regarded as one of the leading voices in contemporary photography, he has curated exhibitions for institutions including MoMA, Tate, Centre Pompidou and ICP, and is the author of numerous books and essays on photography. Campany is the guest curator of The edge of things exhibition at Foam.
The edge of things is curated by David Campany, Creative Director of the International Center of Photography, New York, and organised by the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography (Minneapolis/Paris/Lausanne) in collaboration with Foam.
