The programme will focus on what it means to nurture, support and scout young photographic talents at all stages of their growth and activity – from the educational aspect and the artistic production to their placement in the museum context and in the industry at large. What are the chances and risks for young emerging artists to enter the professional field? How are young visual artists being picked up and promoted? What are relevant platforms and means of stimulating their work and practice? And is there a specific responsibility for cultural organizations (galleries, publishers, museums) regarding the work of young artists?
After photographer Matthew Leifheit kickstarts the programme, key figures from New York’s photography scene will discuss their vision on pathways for young visual artists to emerge outside of the established photography context, followed by an Artist Talk by visual artist Thomas Kuijpers (NL).
