Sarah van Rij - Atlas of Echoes

Dutch photographer Sarah van Rij returns to Foam on Thursday 12 February for a special evening in celebration of her book Atlas of Echoes. The photobook is the first monograph on the work of Van Rij. It immerses the reader in her entire oeuvre, bringing together her black-and-white and colour photography, as well as the collages created since 2018, and in doing so charts the journey from her beginnings as a photographer to her most recent work.

The event in Foam's in-house gallery will start with a talk between the artist and Isabella van Marle, creative strategist, curator and co-founder of Pictures for Purpose, about Van Rij's career and book. Van Marle is a close friend of Van Rij, and alongside their personal bond they maintain an ongoing dialogue on artistic processes and the cross-over between photography and other art forms, which they will continue during the event at Foam.

After the talk, there will be the opportunity to have the book signed by the artist.

About the publication & the artist

Sarah van Rij was born in 1990; she lives and works between Amsterdam and Paris. Entirely self-taught, she began her artistic journey in 2018, starting with street photography before expanding her practice to landscape, still life, portraiture and collage. In 2019 her work was selected by Foam's in-house gallery as a First Editions set. She ended 2025 with three solo shows at the same time: at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) in Paris, at the Prefectural Museum of Art in Chiba (Japan), and the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. She also works on commission, for among others Louis Vuitton, Adidas, Dior, Chanel and Hermès.

The book is a publication of Note Note Editions and was published in an edition of 1500, which is almost sold out.
