Artist Talk Anouk Kruithof
For the occasion of the exhibition Next Level: Anouk Kruithof - ¡Aguas!, Foam organises a talk with the artist on Saturday 18 November.

To what extend can we trust a photograph in the digital age? How do online images influence our perception of reality? And how can this be made explicit through art? Artist Anouk Kruithof and Foam curator Hinde Haest discuss the rapidly evolving role of images, and the way in which the artist uses these as source material for her sculptures and installations.

With her unconventional use of materials Kruithof breaks with the two-dimensional format of photography. She approaches the medium from a great variety of angles; her works are equally versatile, ranging from photo collages to video animations, installations, sculptures, publications, performances and public interventions. At the same time, common premise in the work of Kruithof is a fascination for the online representation of societal issues. The artist subjects these to critical scrutiny by extracting existing imagery from the digital sphere, and translating the photographs into her own three-dimensional visual idiom. During the talk, the artist will discuss both her approach to the medium and how issues such as pollution and climate change are incorporated in her latest work, which was created especially for the exhibition at Foam.

The discussion will be followed by drinks at Foam Editions. Participants will also have the opportunity to view and purchase Kruithof’s latest publication AUTOMAGIC as well as three limited edition prints.

Next Level: Anouk Kruithof - ¡Aguas! is on view at Foam from 17 November 2017 until 28 January 2018.
