Jack Davison, 2012
Untitled, 2012. London, UK.
Created by Jack Davison in 2012. The artwork is mounted on PVC and displayed at 56 x 43 cm.
Compare this image to the work by photographers like Man Ray, Maurice Tabard or Daidō Moriyama. The immense variety of photographic styles is the starting point for Jack Davison’s diverse oeuvre. For example, inspired by surrealism, Davison likes to play with the boundaries between reality and illusion. Is this image the result of double exposure, is the model holding a mirror, or is Davison using photo montage? What this photograph actually shows remains unclear. Davison’s work is full of research and play, for which he constantly uses different cameras and techniques, styles and genres. What he enjoys are exactly the ‘unfamiliar’ and ‘uncontrollable’ elements of this approach. Davison is unafraid to mix styles and forms, producing images without getting trapped in any homogenous style.
