Doppelganger (Kingston)
Created by Sarah Palmer in 2011. The artwork is a digital c-print and displayed at 63.5 x 51 cm.
The apparent order in Doppelganger (Kingston) by American artist Sarah Palmer provokes more questions than answers. How do the various objects relate? All the items are part of the photographer’s household and are intended to evoke a sense of recognition. Rather than seeking to establish a relationship between them, Palmer invites the viewer to think about their own experiences and memories regarding the items displayed here. In this way Palmer researches the various ways in which photography can capture personal ideas and memories.
Palmer’s series As A Real House was part of the Continuity of Chaos exhibition on display at Foam in the summer of 2011. This exhibition toyed with the idea that chaos can also be viewed as something permanent and unchangeable, according to some philosophies.
