Días by Pia Riverola
Book Club: our favourite books from emerging and established talents in the photography world
Released in autumn 2024, the photobook Días by self-taught photographer Pia Riverola remains one of my favourite publications to flip through. Her images of days (días in Spanish) spent travelling show us landscapes, portraits, architecture, street life and still-lifes taken in various parts of the world.
Publisher Loose Joints calls it a ‘synaesthetic experience’ as looking at Riverola's works involuntarily triggers experiences in another unrelated sense. The images—often featuring high contrasts and bold shadows—have a dreamy, timeless and mesmerising quality that fuels my sense of wanderlust.
The book's minimalist design, small white borders around the images and no text, succeeds thanks to the strength of its imagery. It is no surprise that Días is already an enormous success worldwide, after appearing prolifically in many magazines and blogs.
