In het uiterst veelzijdige oeuvre van Helmut Newton staat de vrouw centraal. Newton adoreerde vrouwen, vooral krachtige, sensuele en verleidelijke vrouwen. Tegelijkertijd hebben de vrouwen van Newton iets koels, afstandelijks en ongenaakbaars over zich. Het zijn soms eerder gestileerde objecten dan mensen van vrouw en bloed. Daarbij is&nbsp;de mise-en-sc&egrave;ne waarin Newton zijn vrouwen plaatst en het vaak meerduidige&nbsp;verhaal dat daardoor wordt opgeroepen van essentieel belang.
Zijn&nbsp;specifieke fascinatie voor vrouwen, de verbeelding van de vrouw als een dominante kracht die zowel aantrekkelijk is als angst aanjaagt en het complexe psychologische machtsspel ten aanzien van man-vrouw verhoudingen doen denken aan de obsessieve omgang tot vrouwen bij bepaalde surrealistische kunstenaars als Hans Bellmer en Salvador Dal&iacute;.
Tijdens de tour met Mirjam Kooiman wordt er&nbsp;dieper ingegaan op de wijze waarop vrouwen zijn verbeeld in het surrealisme, en de rol van het surrealisme in de&nbsp;vaak complexe betekenissen van erotiek, seksualiteit, macht, geweld en voyeurisme in&nbsp;Newton's oeuvre.
MIRJAM KOOIMAN | 2 SEPTEMBER&nbsp; Mirjam Kooiman (1990, NL) is curator bij Foam, waar ze o.a. verantwoordelijk is geweest voor tentoonstellingen als Helmut Newton: A Retrospective, Magnum Contact Sheets alsook de reizende Foam Talent 2015 tentoonstelling. Ze behaalde haar Bachelor Kunstgeschiedenis en de Master Museumconservator aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, met een speciale interesse in postkoloniale benaderingen in de kunst en museumstudies. Eerder werkte ze als curator in opleiding bij de fotografiecollectie van het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
PROGRAMMA De rondleiding&nbsp;Aan het woord&nbsp;vindt plaats op vrijdagavonden en start om 19.00 in Foam. Aanmelding is wenselijk om teleurstelling te voorkomen. Per rondleiding is er plek voor 20 personen. Kosten &euro;7,- (exclusief entree).
De tentoonstelling komt tot stand in nauwe samenwerking met de Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlijn. Helmut Newton - A Retrospective is mede mogelijk gemaakt met steun van hoofdsponsor Wolford, hoofdbegunstiger Fonds 21 en projectpartners Spaces en VSBfonds. Foam presents a podcast series around the exhibition Foam Talent 2020. Listen to Foam Talks: Talent Edition to dive deeper into the portfolios of this year's Foam Talents.

The ninth episode of Foam Talks welcomes photographer Alba Zari. The starting point of the conversation is Zari's project The Y, that is currently on show in Amsterdam. Next to The Y, we will also dive into Occult, the new project that Alba Zari is currently working on.

Foam produced this episode as part of a special series of podcasts on the occasion of Foam Talent 2020. Each episode focusses on one artist aiming to evoke a conversation around their approach, offer an insight into the discourses surrounding a specific project, contextualizing it within the photography field while not forgetting the personal stories and dreams behind it. In addition, each conversation features a special guest that has a shared professional or personal connection to the artist. The encounters are moderated by Mirjam Kooiman, curator of this year's Foam Talent exhibition.

The Y with Alba Zari

The third episode of Foam Talks: Talent edition is with Matthew Leifheit, photographer, magazine-editor, publisher, and professor based in Brooklyn, NY and Allen Frame, photographer, writer, curator, professor and theatre and movie director. Allen Frame is also the author of the text on Matthew’s portfolio in Foam Magazine issue 55: Talent 2020, describing his series Fire Island Night, which Matthew has now retitled to To Die Alive. This conversation was recorded on the occasion of the Queer History Month 2021, an initiative of IHLIA, the biggest archive of LGBTI history in Europe, based in Amsterdam.

To Die Alive is a fantastical exploration of Fire Island, the historic gay retreat located less than 50 miles from New York City.

Twenty years ago 9/11 took place, leading the United States to announce its 'War on Terror' and involving Iraq in an ongoing conflict. This war was deemed as the first 'smartphone war' due to the introduction of the smartphone as an object of mass consumption in 2007. The widespread use of digital cameras enabled millions of users to capture the conflict from angles which had previously been out of sight. What formerly had been the domain of photojournalists and governmental agencies, became a limitless stream of images shared on the internet. This gave digital media a vital role in portraying the confrontation's countless layers.

This first episode of Foam Talks: Talent Edition is a conversation with New York based photographer Philip Montgomery, and the Director of Photography of The New York Times Magazine, Kathy Ryan. They have worked together on the occasion of different editorial assignments Ryan gave to Montgomery, in which both constantly seek to balance the fine line between photojournalism and fine art. Starting point of the conversation is Montgomery’s series Flash Points, with which he features in Foam Magazine’s Talent Issue of 2020 and the subsequent exhibition.

The second episode of Foam Talks: Talent edition is with Nigerian photographer Rahima Gambo and Aziza Harmel, curator & writer. The two collaborated during Bamako Encounters - African Biennale of Photography in Mali in 2019 and have been working together since. With podcast host Mirjam Kooiman, curator at Foam, they will delve deeper into Gambo's work and her approach. She is inspired by anthropologist and filmmaker Trinh T. Minh-ha’s way of "speaking nearby" – a way of documenting something without focusing on it exclusively or directly.

Becoming a Ghost. Meeting Moment

Whilst strolling around the virtual landscape, they discuss the motivations and meanings behind Taha's photographic exploration of this digital space.
