Growing Pains In Pieces

Join us on Thursday 18 January at Foam Editions for the launch of the publication In Pieces. This book, produced by the new Amsterdam-based initiative Growing Pains, navigates the space between artist, photography and children’s books, and brings together five artists affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

During the event, curator, researcher, artist and publishing expert Delphine Bedel will moderate a Q&A with the participating artists.

About the book

In Pieces is a collection of works by five artists - Sophia Bulgakova, Lia Dostlieva, Ola Lanko, Katia Motyleva, and Kateryna Snizhko. The artists, originally from Ukraine but currently living and working in the Netherlands, have each developed new work for this publication. Their projects were made with a child in mind. Some pieces directly address younger audiences. Others are inspired by children or draw on the artist’s own memories and experiences. The publication assembles a fragmentary - and certainly incomplete - mosaic of art that can offer a deeper understanding of the war. In Pieces empowers its audience to engage in conversations about what is happening beyond headlines and media images.

Upon purchasing two copies of the book, the audience is invited to donate one to Open Embassy - an organisation offering support to newcomers in the Netherlands.
