In the weekly From the collection series, we highlight a memorable work from the Foam collection.

Four Heads, from the series Lunch Pictures, 2002 © Gus Powell

The series Lunch Pictures, inspired by Frank O’Hara’s book Lunch Poems (1964) portrays special moments in daily life on the streets of New York City. Powell took the photos during his lunch break when he worked for the New York Times. The reflection of the two heads in the café window creates a surreal element in the composition, creating a scene that only becomes visible when captured by the camera.

Gus Powell’s work has been published in Foam Magazine #8 Sidewalk in 2005.
