te zien in

Verscholen in de begroeiing van een klein vergeten moeras ergens in een buitenwijk van Rome, Italië, staat een vrouw, Luba. Haar gezicht, nog net zichtbaar in het zachte schemerlicht, kijkt recht naar de camera. Fotograaf Alessandro Imbriaco bezocht voor zijn serie 

 deze verborgen plek aan de periferie van één van de meeste bezochte steden in Europa. Door een gebrek aan woningen waren de Russische Luba en haar Italiaanse man, Piero, net als veel migranten gedwongen om een leven op te bouwen op de meest onconventionele plekken, verstopt onder viaducten en in steegjes. Let op hoe de bladeren op de voorgrond Luba’s portret als het ware omkaderen en een gevoel van diepte creëren: alsof het struikgewas een beschermende laag vormt tussen haar en de buitenwereld. 

 werd de Italiaanse Alessandro Imbriaco geselecteerd voor Foam Talent 2011. Het verhaal over het leven van Angela’s familie was te zien als onderdeel van de talent groepstentoonstelling en Foam Magazine #28 Talent gepaard met een interview.

, combineert fotograaf Alessandro Imbriaco feilloos het portretgenre met documentaire fotografie. Traditionele technieken uit de portretfotografie vallen op in deze foto: de geportretteerde bevindt zich gecentreerd in beeld, waarbij haar lijf licht naar rechts gedraaid is terwijl haar gezicht terugdraait richting de camera. Daarentegen creëert Imbriaco met het gebrekkige licht, dat zachtjes op haar rode wangen valt, een juist wat mysterieuze sfeer. Dit wordt versterkt door de achtergrond van het portret: een donker en wild struikgewas omgeeft het verlegen-ogende meisje, genaamd Angela. Achter dit portret schuilt een schrijnende realiteit van migranten die een verborgen en geïsoleerd leven leiden in een moerasgebied aan de rand van Rome, Italië. Imbriaco zegt over het werk: “

Gemaakt door Fleur van Dodewaard. Het kunstwerk is een inkjet print op aluminium met een afmeting van 50 x 37,5 cm.

Centraal in het werk van de Nederlandse kunstenaar Fleur van Dodewaard staat het bevragen van de manier waarop we naar kunstobjecten en het creatieve proces kijken. In de 

 geeft Van Dodewaard een unieke interpretatie op een onderwerp dat vaak als cliché wordt beschouwd in de wereld van de fotografie: de zonsondergang. 

De geel gekleurde reflectie in de ronde spiegel dient enerzijds als een minimalistische representatie van de zon, anderzijds speelt de kunstenaar met het idee van fotografie als een illusionair medium. Een spiegel toont altijd iets anders dan zichzelf, namelijk haar reflectie. Dit nodigt de kijker uit om verder na te denken over wat ze echt zien. 

Naast het vertonen van haar werk in de groepstentoonstellingen 

. In een interview weidt ze uit over het tot stand komen van de serie.

De zonsondergang is misschien wel één van de meest gefotografeerde momenten ooit. De veranderende kleuren in de lucht, van feloranje tot zachte paarstinten, wanneer de zon bijna achter de horizon is verdwenen, worden dagelijks door vele mensen wereldwijd bewonderd en vastgelegd.Wat roepen de kleuren van een zonsondergang bij jou op? 

 toont een nieuwe kijk op het clichébeeld van de zonsondergang binnen de wereld van fotografie. De serie bestaat uit een reeks beelden waarbij kunstenaar Fleur van Dodewaard telkens verschillende kleuren van de zonsondergang toont in de reflectie van een cirkelvormige spiegel. Het resultaat is abstracte en minimalistische interpretatie van een ondergaande zon, zoals te zien in

How does a new generation of image-makers from Turkey use photography to reflect on the world around them? 

As part of the multi-year project Kısmet, this online group exhibition gives a snapshot of the emerging community of contemporary image-makers from Turkey. Kısmet is inspired by longstanding cultural, diplomatic and economic ties between Turkey and the Netherlands and delves into the diverse and intricate facets of Turkish visual culture, as seen through the lens of different generations of image-makers. Here, we present the work of four talented visual artists, born after 1990, whose voices will shape the vast visual landscape in Turkey, and beyond, in the upcoming years. 

Showing a diverse range of visual styles, what connects these four artists is the profound personal investment they put in their work. Their photography holds a personal dimension that goes beyond ‘merely’ having an affinity for the chosen subject matter. Rather, their practice and the resulting bodies of work reveal a deep connection to their perception of the world around them. What stands out are the distinct translations of their inner worlds, whether this is in the methodology, subject matter or aesthetics. 

For Oğulcan Arslan, the personal comes forward not only through the story he documents, but also through photographic techniques he uses. In 

, he intimately captures a friendship by adjusting light, exposure and composition to the emotions he experiences himself or from his friend. 

Alp Peker finds solace in their photographic practice to voice their protest against unspoken issues and social taboos they experience on a daily basis. Their photographs, shown here under the title 

, are an ode to the community Alp lives in, their goals, struggles, and weirdnesses.  

Kıvılcım S. Güngörün defines her work as autobiographical fiction. The collages in 

are a direct translation of her inner workings: intuitive visual responses to questions that pop into her mind, or new questions that arise during the process.  

, Cansu Yıldıran studies the power dynamics and gender inequality that they encountered in their ancestral village in Northern Turkey. Inspired by the personal stories of the women of their family, Cansu creates emotional atmospheres that investigate their own sense of identity, of belonging and the continuous search for a safe space.
