Lunch talk on Spirit Photography
Join us on 9 April for a talk with artist Stéphanie Solinas and curator and writer Federica Chiocchetti about Spirit Photography.

Artist Stéphanie Solinas and curator and writer Federica Chiocchetti will discuss the phenomenon of Spirit Photography in relation to the exhibition Stéphanie Solinas – Dominique Lambert / Le Pourquoi Pas? that is on view at Foam from 24 February – 16 April 2017.

For her most recent work Le Pourquoi Pas? (2014 – 2016) Stéphanie Solinas attempted to capture the invisible spirits and elves that are said to dwell in the Icelandic landscape. The artist consulted mediums, geneticists and other experts of the mind and let their instructions guide her work. The resulting images and objects form a cerebral map of an invisible reality.

Photography has been used to capture invisible spirits and the deceased since its very invention. Curator and writer Federica Chiocchetti will deliver a lecture about the practice of spirit photography from the 19th century onwards. The lecture will be followed by a discussion with the artist Stéphanie Solinas about the way her work at Foam approaches the spiritual world.
