Modern Perspectives on Ara Güler with Meltem Halaceli

About Meltem Halaceli
Meltem Halaceli is a Dutch writer, performer, and expert on Turkey. Halaceli was recently shadowed during her assistance to her family in Antakya for the documentary "De Naschok van Frontlinie/VPRO," which portrays the impact of earthquakes. In December 2015, Halaceli published her debut work ‘The Forgotten History of My Grandfather Sulayman Hadj Ali’ about her family history with Athenaeum-Polak & Van Gennep Publishers in Amsterdam. She also contributed to "Zomergasten," the travel series "Langs de grenzen van Turkije," and is currently working on her second book.
About Ahmet Polat & Kısmet
Ahmet Polat is currently the chief editor at Omroep HUMAN, a renowned photographer, and critic. In 2015, he was Photographer des Vaderlands. His work has often been featured at Foam, and he is an initiator of Kısmet at Foam. The multi-year project is inspired by the long-standing cultural, diplomatic, and economic ties between Turkey and The Netherlands. Kısmet delves into the complex and rich elements of Turkish visual culture, as seen through the perspectives of various generations of image-makers.

Ara Güler is a renowned photojournalist who captured the essence of Turkey and the world beyond. The exhibition A Play of Light and Shadow shows both iconic and unknown parts of Güler's oeuvre. The show serves as a testament to Turkey's rich history and offers a glimpse into the ever-evolving Turkish identity.
