Press release | April 2018
For the third time, Beaconsfield Gallery Vauxhall and Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam proudly present Foam Talent, a touring exhibition that brings together a group of 20 innovative photography talents under the age of 35.
This year, 1790 artists working with photography responded to Foam’s annual Talent Call, which has the reputation of representing the latest developments in photography. The final selection of 20 artists has been made on the basis of their innovative and often experimental approaches to the medium.
Coinciding with Photo London, the Foam Talent exhibition acts as an annual platform for introducing a new generation of emerging artists to the international art world and provides an insight to current photographic concerns.
Socio-political concerns are amongst a number of perceptible trends and tendencies: several artists openly denounce totalitarian regimes in their respective countries or comment on the way in which online imagery feeds a collective fear of terrorism. Questions of identity and representation continue to be important themes for a new generation of photographers. Responses are made on a personal and sometimes intimate level, as well as on a cultural, national, or even global scale. This year’s selection includes a striking number of long-term projects that acquire greater depth of meaning over time – sometimes involving years of study or extensive travels. Equally striking is the embrace of a wide range of mediums by today’s artists, who rarely confine themselves to the camera alone.
Through a myriad of subjects and techniques, this new generation of inspiring artists reflects on the nature, history, and development of the photographic medium. By showing their work in partnership with Beaconsfield, Foam presents its views on the diverse – and often surprising – developments in contemporary photography, while creating a platform to introduce emerging talents internationally.

FOAM TALENT CALL
The artists exhibited in the exhibition have been selected from Foam’s annual Talent Call. The open call is an international search for artists between the ages of 18 and 35 who make use of the medium of photography in fresh or striking ways. Selected artists will have their work published in Foam Magazine and participate in a touring exhibition, among other career-building opportunities.
The Foam Talent Programme is supported by the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation and the Niemeijer Fund. Foam Talent | London is made possible with support from Kleurgamma Fine-Art Photolab and Star Frame.
