Press Release | Amsterdam, November 2020
Foam presents Foam Talent | Digital, a multi-media platform showcasing artist projects supported by audio, video and effects. Straying away from typical virtual reality or installation views, the exhibition is a fresh adaptation to digital experiences in the museum sector. By breaking away from the mould of physical space in institutional exhibitions, Foam aims to present photography in respect of the digital space: literally with no walls, boundaries or constraints. The exhibition nods to the explorative nature of visiting a museum, yet instead of attempting to recreate it, leads a viewer in a way for them to discover and experience new things: digitally native, intuitively.
In light of the current climate, some drastic changes had to be made to Foam’s programme and way of working. Due to Covid-19 several projects were postponed or cancelled. One of Foam’s flagship projects, Foam Talent 2020, was unable to travel internationally to planned locations such as London and Paris. In order to give the 2020 talents a platform with the same respect as other years, Foam Talent |Digital was built.
DIGITAL AS AN EXPERIENCE
The digital medium is a unique space, especially for these young artists. It expands the reach into a truly international experience and allows for opportunities to present the portfolios in a new way. The digital exhibition is an addition to the existing talent programme consisting of the annual talent Issue of Foam Magazine and the touring Foam Talent exhibition. The digital exhibition showcases extended portfolio work, including video artwork, accompanying soundscapes or music, audio voice-overs and video interviews. It is an additional experience complementing a physical museum visit or reading Foam Magazine. By presenting works in a digital-first way, Foam is honouring the native capabilities of the medium in desktop and mobile. The exhibition is free to access with no barriers of entry.
Foam Talent | Digital is free to access and is available online until Spring 2021.
The Foam Talent programme and the annual Talent issue of Foam Magazine are supported by The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation, the VandenEnde Foundation and the Niemeijer Fund.
Foam is supported by the BankGiro Loterij, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, City of Amsterdam, Foam Members and Olympus.
