Press Release | Amsterdam, 19 February 2019
The winner of the Foam Paul Huf Award 2019 will be announced on 5 March 2019. The international award for young photographers is organised annually by Foam and evaluated by an independent jury. The jury for 2019 consists of: Tristan Lund (chair, independent art consultant and curator, United Kingdom), Jop van Bennekom (creative director Fantastic Man, the Netherlands), Bruno Ceschel (director Self Publish Be Happy, Italy), Elena Navarro (director Centro de la Imagen, Mexico) and Azu Nwagbogu (chief curator Zeitz Mocaa, South Africa).
In the first week of March the international jury will gather in Amsterdam in order to select a winner, based on a hundred portfolios that were submitted from all across the globe, from which nominators have been selected. The prize consists of the title, a cash prize of €20,000,- and a solo exhibition at Foam. To produce an internationally representative selection Foam approached around twenty nominators in various parts of the world. These nominators, specialists and experts in the field of photography, were each asked to select a number of talented photographers under the age of 35 in their own region.
The award can be presented for any type of photography: from documentary or applied photography, to journalistic or independent work. The winner’s work must exhibit a clear visual language and distinguish itself in both form and content.
The Foam Paul Huf Award came about as a result of the special relationship Foam had with Dutch photographer Paul Huf (1924-2002). Paul Huf was known for his innovative photographic technique and was personally involved in the establishment of Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam in 2001.
The winner of the Foam Paul Huf Award 2019 will be announced on 5 March, via a press release.
The exhibition of the winner of 2019 will be on show in the fall of 2019.
