Internationals photography fair with a festival flair

Unseen is the photography fair for new discoveries, new talent and hidden treasures. With a programme designed to challenge, inspire and excite, the fair aims to create an atmosphere in which today's visitors and tomorrow's collectors feel at home. Unseen is the ultimate international platform through which we advance the exploration and encourage the discovery of the yet undetected photographer or work. It is a platform upon which we expose young talent and share it with the world and a platform from which this talent can spring.

Galleries Participating at Unseen Photo Fair 2013
More than fifty galleries from around the world have been invited to participate in the second edition of Unseen Photo Fair. New to this edition are the galleries Aperture Foundation (New York), CONRADS (Dusseldorf), Stevenson (Cape Town), Pobeda Gallery (Moscow), Galerie Fons Welters (Amsterdam), and Galerie Esther Woederhoff (Paris). These galleries will focus on emerging talent and unseen work by renowned photographers. Also new to the fair are four artist-run initiatives, including Polly's Picture show and MELK, who have been invited to present their work alongside the gallery stands.

Unseen campaign image 2013: Viviane Sassen
We are proud to present unseen work by Viviane Sassen. Sassen is representative of a new generation of Dutch photographers and has deservedly won wide recognition for her ability to traverse the worlds of art and fashion, establishing her name at the highest international levels.

Sassen also shot the campaign image for this year's edition of Unseen. Sasha Stone, Managing Director of Unseen comments: "Viviane Sassen's photography perfectly represents the notion of 'discovery'. She is furthermore incredibly brave and experimental in her approach, combining formal and technical advances with astoundingly beautiful images. For Unseen, there was no better match."

The Unseen Collection will return to the grounds of the Westergasfabriek during Unseen. Comprising of more than 100 works contributed by galleries participating at Unseen Photo Fair 2013, the works are priced at 1,000 euros and under, thereby highlighting Unseen's aim to make the best in contemporary photography available to all.

Firestarters presents Unseen Theatre will host a series of panel discussions and lectures. Starting with the launch of the Foam Magazine Talent issue on Thursday 26 September, the themes for the talks on the successive days will range from Editing the World on Friday to How to Connect in a Globalising World on Saturday. Speakers will include, among others, Jörg Colberg (Conscientious), Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs (photographers), Cristina De Middel (photographer), Jenna Brinning (Tumblr), Nalden (social entrepreneur), Alejandro Castellanos (Centro de la Imagen), Nathalie Herschdorfer (Alt. +1000), Feng Boyi (curator and art critic), Todd Hido (photographer), and Chris McCall (Pier 24 Photography).

Selected films and documentaries about photography will also be screened at the Unseen Theatre. These include films by Gregory Crewdson, Julius Shulman, Bert Stern, and Katrien Vermeire, and more. IDFA and AVRO have also curated film selections for Unseen.

French artist JR will present his project 'INSIDE OUT' at the Westergasfabriek. Addressing notions of commitment, freedom, identity and limits, JR will create an exhibition without boundaries. Large prints made onsite will be exhibited both in and out of the fair space. Everyone can participate and have their portrait added to the exhibition free of charge. So far over 120,000 people from more than 100 countries have participated, turning their stories into works of public art.

The Unseen Living Room is an informal meeting place where visitors can sit and relax, listen to interviews and watch short films, and take in all that Unseen has to offer. Featuring Freunde Von Freunden, a Japanese Talent slideshow, and guest speakers such as Cheryl Dunn (filmmaker Everybody Street) and Christopher LaMarca (photographer) and more, the Unseen Living Room is the place for professionals and the public alike to come together, learn and discuss.
