To help first-time art buyers prepare for the Unseen Photo Fair,
Foam and Unseen present a Masterclass: Collecting
International experts in the photography world will take the
participants through the basic elements of the process of acquiring
photographic works, and give guidance on such practical matters as
editioning and various photographic techniques as well as criteria
on how collecting photography.

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September.
Simone Klein is Head of Photography Department at Sotheby's in
Paris. Over the last couple of years sales of photography at
Sotheby's Paris have become not-to-be-missed events for
connoisseurs from around the world. During the course she will
focus on pricing and the development of the photography market over
the past years. Topics covered: Criteria on how collecting
photography and things to take into account when collecting such
as, what are editions? When is a price reasonable? Including a
short explanation of different photographic techniques.
Carolyn H. Drake is an independent curator and co-director of
A Tale of A Tub, working in New York and Amsterdam. Between 2007
and 2010 she worked at Sotheby's in Hong Kong and New York. From
2012 she has been working as a freelance curator and has organised
exhibitions at, among others, Mendes Wood DM in São Paulo, Weizmann
Institute of Science in Israel and the Frankendael Foundation in
Amsterdam. Drake is also board member of Young Stedelijk.
There are only a limited number of places for this Masterclass.
